InConcept

The month of October is the fifth year for InConcept, seven if your count the two years I was alone in the consulting business. Five years ago two very long time friends joined me to create InConcept. Dick Barden was the first by two months. Dick was one of the very early people involved in ORM and with the various products and early developers - ServerWare. Dick was promoted to the advisory council and has help with the promotion of conceptual modeling ever since. He is also one of the early certified instructors. He has attended conferences, presented papers, wrote articles in various publications and helped develop content for ORM courses. Necito dela Cruz was the next to join and finalized the formation of InConcept. Without Necito, myself and Dick would have never known about ORM/NIAM. Necito was one my early managers - in my formative years. Necito introduced me to NIAM and then Dick came on board - he was my office partner after a couple of years. Necito was introduced to NIAM in Brussels when the early work was being done in the late 1970's. We here at InConcept can truly say that Necito was our mentor over these years. He still helps us along with his management skills as he did in the beginning. Necito is also responsible for our documentation styles. Between the three partners we have nad a good five years now and are still enjoy all the opportunities ORM has brought us - not to mention the friendship that continues to grow between us. We will continue to give it our best effort.

The journal is now changing hands with the departure of Scot. I have taken over this issue and will pass on the responsibility after I conquer the ability to create the issues. I am taking this opportunity to increase my skills at managing a web site before handing off the duties. Old dogs can learn new tricks. So if there are any problems this time - they are the learning curve in action.

The journal will continue to be published every other month with the usual set of contributors, plus our new authors continuing to share their ideas and hard work.

This days are really stressful for everyone - with the slow market and emotional depression caused by the attacks on New York and Washington D.C. - we could all use some good news. Even though none of us know any victim - we are surely saddened by the events of September 11, 2001. Maybe we'll be the first to wish everyone a really "Good Thanksgiving" this year - we certainly have a lot to grateful for - the people seem just a little happier to see each other and to find ways to help out.

Trivia:
Remember the first logo?

The company name is Information Conceptual Modeling Inc. We are doing business as InConcept. The logo was created to say: Information must be Conceptually Modeled. The Information could have one or more Conceptual Models. The Conceptual Model is about some Information. The "nested" fact then has the default name "Information Conceptual Modeling". Not a bad name but very long.

New ORM Course from Microsoft

Locally we are offering the ORM / Visual Modeling course with Alto Consulting a Certified Microsoft Training/Consulting. company. The course will be offered monthly. InConcept will continue to use current training materials with more emphasis on using the ORM tools. The course as a result is going to 4- 1/2 days in length - back to the original time frame used in the first 5 years of teaching the course.   Registration for the course can be done at our web site or by www.AltoConsulting.com. Alto is offering the course in their next edition of their training course materials. The first offering at this new site is November 12 - see our training page for more information.

Patrick Hallock is a Senior Partner and Principal Consultant for InConcept. He has over 20 years of ORM/NIAM experience and is  a certified ORM consultant, trainer/train the trainer and a certified Visio trainer.
